Fluoride ions in the sample to be tested react with a fluorine reagent to form a blue ternary complex in acetate buffer medium at pH 4.1 in the presence of lanthanum nitrate. The complex has maximum absorption at a specific wavelength, and the fluoride content in the sample to be tested is calculated by photoelectric colorimetry.
